Should the spay and neuter be part of a general wellness checkup?
A: It is recommended that all cats should be spayed or neutered at 7 months; however, it is not mandatory. The American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) recommends that all dogs and cats over 6 months of age should be spayed/neutered to reduce pet overpopulation. To see if your cat has been altered before moving forward with surgery, we recommend taking him to an appointment at one of our partner shelters or clinics in your area. After surgery, he will need vaccinations and care for normal health issues associated with being fixed by his veterinarian prior to being adopted into a home or after adoption from us!
