Sometimes it is hard to tell your kitten or cat just how much they should be eating. The best way to do this is by gradually increasing the amount of food that you feed them. Start out with a half cup every day from the point where you have been feeding them for at least three weeks, and then try one cup a day. If your cat doesn’t seem to gain weight as expected, increase their food intake by one quarter cup each week until it reaches two cups a day again.
If your kitten seems lethargic or sickly after taking in all of these extra calories, don’t go back down too far without seeing a vet first – overfeeding can cause many problems for cats including feline diabetes and heart disease so make sure you take care when giving your kitty any additional nutrition!
