When A Kitten Gets In Trouble How Long Does It Remember Why?

I would say it depends on the severity of the punishment and how long they remember. I had a kitten that we adopted from our local shelter when he was only 6 weeks old, he never did anything to warrant getting spayed or neutered (he looked like an adult cat) and then one day we were looking at him sleeping in my mother-in-law’s arms and she yelled “Squeak” He ran under her chair for several seconds before she got him out. She had told us about him having kittens but didn’t get them until about 3 months later (when he was 7 months old). She felt bad for scaring me because I came running into the living room when I heard Squeak instead of just going back to watching TV after being reminded that this is still a house full of cats. My husband also once rescued a kitten who barely remembered his previous life as a feral mountain lion in California – he stopped eating after being force fed by some cruel people in Los Angeles which caused him to have anemia resulting in organ failure. After almost dying from starvation twice, it took several months before he realized there was food available so now every time someone says “wake up!” you can see his tail wiggle frantically! Now if my kids do something naughty…
