Adorable kittens require the same vaccinations as adult cats. The age when a kitten should receive these shots depends on their location and how often they interact with other animals in their environment, such as dogs and other young children. Many veterinarians recommend that kittens receive vaccines at about four months of age or older if living in an area where there is a high risk of exposure to rabies, distemper, hepatitis and feline panleukopenia virus (FPLV) infection (also known as feline herpesvirus-1). Kittens may need additional flu vaccine boosters every year depending upon the type of background vaccination status for which they were born.
