Where Should A Kitten Sleep On The First Night?

I’m taking my kitten to the vet tomorrow for his first check up. I didn’t want to take him on Saturday because he would be nervous, but now that it’s Friday night, I can’t wait until Monday!

One of the vets suggested that I sleep with him in a cardboard box on top of his litter box. It worked great last time and is easy enough for me to do at home before bedtime now. However, many people suggest putting your kitten under their covers or snuggling with them in your lap instead. Some people claim this is bad for kittens, but usually only if you’re not getting any proper rest yourself (i.e., cats don’t like it when they wake up alone). As long as you keep an eye on things and make sure they are warm enough during the day (a cat will always choose warmth over comfort) then there shouldn’t be any problems sleeping next to each other.

I’ve read about some parents who swear by putting their new kitty down with their own baby! What do most of you think? Also – does anyone have a good idea where a kitten should sleep first night?
