This is a normal behavior in all cats. When they are happy, or excited, they will make high-pitched “meow” sounds to communicate this excitement. This can be prevented by simply ignoring the meowing sound and walking away from the cat instead of rewarding it with your attention. Kittens do this more often than adults, perhaps because their vocalizations are not as developed yet or because kittens want you to pay close attention to them!
